Chandelier Installation & Repair in West Central Florida

Licensed, Local, and Trusted Since 1973 (#EC13006813)

Hanging a chandelier is not a bigger version of swapping a light fixture. A standard ceiling box is rated to hold about 50 pounds—many chandeliers weigh more. Foyer installations happen fifteen to twenty feet off the floor. And the fixture itself is usually the most fragile and most sentimental thing in the room. Faulkner Electric has been hanging, wiring, and repairing chandeliers in West Central Florida homes since 1973.

Why This Isn't a Ladder-and-a-friend Job

Three things change when the fixture is a chandelier. Weight:  Height:  Wiring: multi-arm fixtures, dimmers, and LED lamping all have to agree with each other, or you get flicker, buzz, and burned-out sockets.

Weight

Anything over about 50 pounds needs a listed fixture-rated box or bracing installed between the joists — the existing box that held your old flush-mount was never designed for it.

Height

Two-story foyers and stairwells mean proper ladders or a lift, two sets of hands, and a plan for getting a heavy, awkward fixture up there without meeting the floor on the way.

Wiring

Multi-arm fixtures, dimmers, and LED lamping all have to agree with each other, or you get flicker, buzz, and burned-out sockets.

Chandelier Installation

  • Replacing a fixture where one already hangs, once we've confirmed the box can take the weight
  • New locations: we run the switch leg, set a properly rated box or brace, and keep the drywall repair small
  • Two-story foyer and stairwell installations, at height, with the right equipment
  • Sloped and vaulted ceilings with the correct adapters
  • Hanging height set right (dining table, entry, stair landing) before we lock everything down
  • Dimmers matched to the fixture's lamping, including LED-compatible dimmers and smart switches

Chandelier Repair & Rewiring

A chandelier that flickers, has one dead arm, or shows cracked and crumbling wire insulation is usually worth fixing, especially if it's older. The parts that fail are the parts that can be replaced: sockets, internal wiring, and canopy hardware. We rewire fixtures end to end, replace sockets, and convert candelabra sockets to LED so the fixture runs cooler and stops eating bulbs.

If a chandelier has hung in three houses of family history, we can make it safe for a fourth.

Swapping fixtures as part of something bigger? Chandelier work folds neatly into a home remodel lighting plan, where the dining room, entry, and everything between get planned together.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Can my ceiling support a chandelier?

The box, not the ceiling, is usually the question. Standard ceiling boxes are rated to about 50 pounds; heavier fixtures need a listed fixture box or a brace spanning the joists. We check what's up there before the fixture leaves its crate, and add support if it needs it.

  • How do you install a chandelier in a two-story foyer?

With the right equipment and two technicians: tall ladders or a lift depending on the space, one person supporting the fixture while the other makes the connections. We also settle the hanging height and chain length before we climb, because "a little lower" is an expensive sentence at eighteen feet.

  • Can an old chandelier be rewired instead of replaced?

Usually, yes. Sockets, internal wiring, and mounting hardware are all replaceable, and rewiring a well-made older fixture often costs less than buying a new one of comparable quality. Antique and heirloom fixtures are a regular part of this work.

  • Can I put my chandelier on a dimmer?

Almost always, with the right dimmer. LED bulbs need an LED-compatible dimmer or they'll flicker and buzz. We match the dimmer to the fixture's lamping so it fades smoothly all the way down.

  • How high should a chandelier hang over a dining table?

The standard is 30 to 36 inches from the tabletop to the bottom of the fixture with an 8-foot ceiling, plus about 3 inches for each additional foot of ceiling height. In an open foyer, the bottom of the fixture should clear a tall person — at least 7 feet from the floor.
