Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need a permit for lighting changes in a remodel?
Swapping a fixture for a new one in the same spot generally doesn't need a permit. New circuits, moved wiring, and added recessed lighting generally do in Hernando and Pasco counties. We pull the permits when they're required and handle the inspection, so it's not something you have to referee.
How many recessed lights does a room need?
Fewer than most plans call for, placed better. A working starting point is spacing cans about half the ceiling height apart and lighting the zones you use rather than the whole ceiling evenly; dimmers then give you the range in between. We plan the layout on paper with you before anyone cuts a hole.
Recessed cans or wafer lights?
Both are good. Wafers are slim, run cool, and fit where joists, ducts, or low clearance rule out a full housing, which makes them the retrofit favorite. Traditional cans take replaceable trims and lamps. We'll recommend per room rather than per fashion.
Can you add recessed lighting without a full remodel?
Yes. Wafer LEDs and careful wire-fishing make retrofit recessed lighting a clean job in a finished ceiling, no remodel required. The remodel just makes it cheaper.
Should every light be on a dimmer?
Living spaces, yes: it's the least expensive thing that most changes how a room feels. Task areas like the garage, laundry, and closets are better at full brightness. We'll zone it so the switches make sense to a houseguest.
